Observe: Shibuya, the world, the self, the future. At Shibuya Sky, you can look out over the Shibuya area from 229 meters (751 ft) up in the air. I wonder what the scramble crossing would look like from that high up?

There was once a planetarium on this spot. After the war, when Shibuya was still relatively undeveloped, this planetarium became a symbol of the developing area and people would look out at the sky. This was during the time period when Yuri Gagarin proclaimed that “the earth is blue” and Apollo 11 landed on the moon. In this period of rapid growth and advancement, the people looked out at the universe from this planetarium, full of hopes and dreams.

Time passed and in 2019 the planetarium was demolished and replaced with Shibuya Sky. Now, people look down at the earth from the sky, but it doesn’t end there. The observatory is made with a unique spatial device that lets you see the world in a way you never have before. You can experience the world around you in 360 degrees and sense the history of the town and the memories of its people. You can imagine the world that lies beyond, and the future that awaits us. There is also a piece of art on display here to help guide you on that journey. In this new space, you can see the world from various angles and make new discoveries along the way.
