What happens when you fuse the business life of a city and a city park? This park is the first version of this “mixture” in Shibuya.
The first thing you may notice is the cafe and food trucks. The people gathered here may actually be thrust into a sudden live music event as this park also serves as a stage.
Many artists hold live street performances in Shibuya. While guerrilla performances are an essential part of street culture, they also can obstruct the day-to-day lives of people passing by. There are many parks where performances like these are prohibited, but this restricts the artist's ability to perform.
That is why in Kitaya Park they created a project called “SHIBUYA PARK MUSIC,” where all artists have to do is fill out a simple form and they are able to perform live in the space. This allows the music culture of Shibuya to continue to thrive and accelerate.
What is it looking like today? If there isn’t a live performance, you can sit on a nearby bench and imagine a band playing in the space. As you do, you might realize how this space was made to perfectly suit that atmosphere.
