Introduction

When you tell someone you listened to this guide
A story unlike anything you expect may unfold

Japan’s longest one-way transit bus route is four hours and 30 minutes long. It leads to the secluded village of Totsukawa.

In keeping with that seemingly endless bus ride, there is even a village within the village known as “Hatenashi Village”, or “Endless Village”.

The villagers say that no matter how far you travel along the mountain roads of this village, they never seem to end. They also say that on these long paths, during times of “endings”, such as the end of the year, a monster who eats travelers will appear. But if that were really true, no one would ever want to go into the mountains…

What kind of stories are told in this remote town? What kind of adventures await? And what kind of people are living here now? When we asked these questions, we were repeatedly surprised by the answers. We had no idea that a place like this existed in Japan.

We’d love for you to use this guide as an opportunity to meet the people of this village. If you tell them you listened to this guide, a story unlike anything you expect may unfold.
