This warehouse looks brand new at first glance, but it’s actually been here since the Edo Period. You can tell its age by the Japanese nails popping out of the frame of the thinned wood. They were originally nailed flat against the wood but as time passes and the wood shrinks, they start to pop out.

Something as small as a nail can quietly tell us how locals have cherished and maintained these old buildings.
