This building is the “former former main hall”. It was built around the same time as the three-storied pagoda and built where the current great main hall is now. At that time this building was said to be as colorful as the pagoda.
You can see a sword adorning the front of Kōmyō-dō. Do you remember the sword that the Budōmyō’ō statue held in its hand? The sword is an item that symbolizes Budōmyō’ō and is what remains of the second main hall.
Comparing this hall to the gaku-dō is interesting. Both the gaku-dō and Kōmyō-dō appear to be very old, right? Well in fact, Kōmyō-dō is 100 years older. Perhaps since this hall was once the main hall of the temple, it was treated especially carefully.
By the way, after the third main hall (Shaka-dō) was built, it is said that Kōmyō-dō was lifted out of the ground and brought to this spot. And surprisingly enough, it is said that the net used to pull this building up was made out of human hair.
