When you hear “Embassy” what kind of building do you imagine? You probably think of strict security surrounded by gray walls, a hard to approach black gate, and serious looking guards. But compare this building with your image of an embassy. Here they have fresh yellow colored walls, as if they are inviting you to the innards of the complex, the architecture is similar to two arms spread wide, exclaiming “welcome”. Here is the generosity and power of Brazilian architecture represented by Oscar Niemeyer.
During the World Cup in Brazil, a pavilion designed by Shigeru Ban was set up in front of the Embassy, and anyone passing by could come cheer on the teams playing. Musical events and exhibitions are also occasionally held and the yellow wall is sometimes filled with graffiti or contemporary art installations. The space does not feel like a traditional embassy, but it encompasses a unique Brazilian feel. Does your country’s embassy have a country-specific feel as well?
