What’s that? You’re hungry?
If that’s the case, I have just the place for you. The nostalgic teishoku restaurant, Ichibantai.
Come on, let’s look atall these platters lined up on the counter. There’s a rolled Omelette with Hijiki Seaweed, Meat and Potato Stew, and Simmered Burdock Roots with Carrots Fried Horse Mackerel and dried Saba Mackerel. All of these are nostalgic Japanese home cooked meals.
The food here changes on a daily basis. You pick a main dish and side dishes from the list, and with miso soup and rice, and you have your teishoku set meal. They even grill the fish right there in front of you. Just smelling that makes you want to drink another beer.
For heavy drinkers like me, they serve small appetizers instead of teishoku meals. Some guys even have them pour sake into the tea cups.
Vegetables stewed in dashi broth pair perfectly with sake! And besides sake, they also have beer, shochu, lemon sour, high balls, and plum wine too.
There are plenty of Izakaya bars to drink at in Kamata, but this kind of laid back home cooking is hard to find.
There are all kinds of regular customers that come here, from young starving business men to drunk old men. When you come here you feel relaxed, like you just came back home for a nice warm home cooked meal.
Why don’t you head on through the curtain? Don’t worry about it. Everyone inside is nice.
I heard the owner of the shop isn’t originally from Kamata. 25 years ago, he was trying to open a shop and just happened across this spot. I’m pretty thankful that he chose to open his shop up here.
The original owner should be working at lunchtime. If you come at lunch the teishoku sets only cost 920, whereas at dinner time the sets cost 1100 yen,so it’s a bit of a deal. If you get another chance to come at lunch, why don’t you check it out?
