Built in 1937, the Old Ishida Rikichi Residence is a three-story building made completely out of wood. The Ishida family built it when they accepted a new son-in-law, and surprisingly, it made for visitors.
The first floor contains Japanese-style rooms, the second floor contains a combination of Japanese- and Western-style rooms, and the third floor contains a banquet hall.
The first floor rooms are lavishly built and decorated with rosewood, ebony, Bombay blackwood, and Japanese persimmon wood - all rare materials to come by these days.
And have you noticed the slight curve to the alcoves in these rooms? It’s said they were designed this way to make the room seem wider.
