Back in the old days, Moji Port was exporting coal, rice, wheat, flour, and sulfur. It was also home to a branch office of Nagasaki Customs. At its peak in the middle of the Meiji era, Moji Port was ranked fourth in the country in terms of profitable trade ports, right after Osaka at number three and exceeding Nagasaki at number five. Eventually, the branch office became its own independent Customs office, becoming the seventh customs office in Japan, “Moji Customs."
Due to its long and deep history, the former Moji Customs is a great example of “Mojiko Retro."
