At Tsujiri Tea Store you can enjoy tea made from Fukuoka tea leaves.

The owner was born and raised in Kokura. Be sure to see if he’s around while you’re there, and he can tell you anything you want to know about the area. He says that back in the day, raising a child was a community responsibility, so he recalls times he was naughty or nice and how the shopkeepers took care of him either way.

“During the economic boom, the streets were so crowded that you couldn’t take a step forward until the person in front of you did.”
“When it wasn’t crowded, I’d usually play outside the stores.”
“Did you know there used to be a roller coaster in front of Kokura Castle? I used to ride it all the time.”
