MRS. HAGIWARA KANNA(MRS. CHHEANG SENG TEAKKHENA)
BORN IN 1970 IN PHNOM PENH, LIVES IN KANAGAWA

Because Kanna’s aunt has a Japanese husband who was a journalist and they were the first Cambodian refugees to travel to Japan, journalists followed their story from the time they were living in Camp 07 to the time they landed at Narita Airport. Kanna’s family travelled to Japan in 1980. They were among the first Cambodian refugee families to live in Japan.

At the time, there were 15 Cambodian refugees travelling together. Among them, six were Kanna’s family members. All of them now live in Japan.

After arriving in Japan, all Cambodian refugees stayed temporarily at the Yamato Resettlement Promotion Centre (Yamato Centre) for three months during which time they were to learn Japanese.
