MR. LIM VANN
BORN IN 1972 IN KAMPONG SPEU PROVINCE,LIVES IN SOUTH AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND.

At the end of the Khmer Rouge regime, Lim Vann fled to the border camps. He lived in at least two camps in Thailand, Khao I Dang (1979—1991) and ChunBuri (1991—1992).

At the camps, refugees would be accepted for resettlement in different countries. That process could separate relatives and families. While at Khao I Dang camp, he received money from his uncle who was already living in the United States. To keep the memory of his time in the refugee camps alive, he bought this silver bracelet. It was handmade by other survivors living in the camp and, at the time, cost 500 Thai Baht (equivalent to $25 today).

In 1992, Lim Vann was accepted for resettlement in New Zealand. Upon arrival, he stayed at the Māngere Refugee Resettlement Centre for six weeks before living in Dunedin, then Hamilton and finally moving to Auckland in 1995.
