After it was used as a filming location for the NHK TV drama “Ohanahan,” this street was known all over Japan as “Ohanahan Street.” The waterway beside the road is either perfectly clear with fish swimming through, or cloudy and muddy. Back in the day, locals would look at the waterway to predict the Hijikawa River’s condition.
This street, which was the main street connecting the castle to the lord’s villa, used to be lined with merchants on the north side and samurai residences on the south side.
To think, the lord himself used to look at this same waterway and wonder, “How’s the Hijikawa River doing today?”
