A marine products company Kyodo Gyogyo, which has since changed to Nissui Kaisha, moved their net fishing base from Shimozeki to Tobata in 1929 and it became the largest net fishing base in the world. They were able to supply marine products not only to the people of Tobata but to the rest of Japan.
That building now hosts an exhibit on the first floor going through the first 100 years of the company and forecasts the future of the company and the industry. Besides the history exhibit, you can also see the ship exhibit. The Nissui Tobata Building remains today as a spiritual base for people who inherit Nissui's aspirations and as a landmark tower for ships traveling in the bay.
