Storyteller Introduction

Not many things can change our lives, but a story can change our journey. One person’s story can provide a new perspective, which can change your point of view, thus altering your entire world. As you become more attuned to the world around you, the meaning of what you see in front of you also changes. And once you realize this, there’s no going back.

When you watch a movie set in your travel destination, when you meet people that have traveled there just like the protagonists, or read a novel that is centered around said destination, you also vicariously take a voyage there through the storyteller’s perspective. Your own trip will change after you’ve learned the story of your destination.

Once upon a time, the Setouchi Region was connected to the mainland. Then the oceans flooded in, creating a strait between Shikoku and Honshu and forming many small islands.

The Inland Sea is home to over 700 islands. Its unique topography has birthed a complex marine ecosystem that has charmed many travelers, artists, and writers.

These tides carried ships and birthed myths and legends. And though the islands are close to one another, each one has fostered its own distinctive history and culture.

This guide will introduce some of these islands alongside the port cities of the Setouchi Region.
Add a little color to your trip and let us be your navigator. Feel free to put one headphone in and listen while you travel.

We hope you will see your trip with new eyes after hearing tales of this region.
