Sunpu’s Workshop: Takumi-Shuku, Izumigaya
The Sound and Story of Craftsmanship
This area prospered as a post town along the “Ancient Tokaido” route when the country was ruled by Tokugawa Ieyasu. It was at this peaceful time when Shizuoka became a castle town, and craftsmen from all over Japan gathered here to show off their skills. Their techniques are the roots of the traditional crafts we see today.
Welcome to Takumi-Shuku, where you can try out different crafts under the guidance of professionals. What kind of stories are behind each craft, and Izumigaya itself? Let’s take a look at the workshops together and find out.
